About the Impact FoundationPat Traynor - Chair / Executive Director
Pat Traynor, a North Dakota native, earned his B.A. in Economics and a law degree from the University of North Dakota. He began his career as an attorney with the law firm of Conmy, Feste, Bossart, Hubbard and Corwin, Ltd. in Fargo. In 1994, he was appointed as deputy director/general counsel of the N.D. Workers Compensation Bureau. Within a year he became the CEO of the Bureau where he spearheaded a major reform that resulted in the elimination of a $240 million unfunded liability and the building of a $350 million surplus.
Pat joined Dakota Medical Foundation as president in May 2000. The Foundation, with assets of $118 million, is committed to measurably improving access to healthcare services in the region with a specific emphasis on the health needs of children. The Foundation awards approximately $3.5 million in grants annually. Under his leadership, he reorganized the Foundation to maintain its public charity status, instituted key performance measures, implemented the Carver Model of Board Governance, launched a grantwriting program which has secured about $6 million and developed a results-oriented strategic plan. Pat established two other Foundations - Impact and Achievements Unlimited Foundations, DMF partner organizations designed to attract more resources and lead initiatives for both health and non-health related charitable purposes. He also launched the Impact Institute for Innovation and Effectiveness to provide technical assistance and resources to improve the outcomes of non-profit organizations in ND and MN. He serves as a board member on the Anne Carlsen Center for Children Foundation, as vice chair of the North Dakota Safety Council and co-chair of the Ducks Unlimited Sponsor’s Committee in Fargo.
