High performing nonprofit organizations proactively maintain sound internal practices including strategic planning and measurement, financial accountability, and effective board governance. If you see the Impact Nonprofit logo attached to a nonprofit organization you are interested in, you will know it has a demonstrated commitment to the following accountabilities in operation:

1.	The nonprofit organization has a strategic and/or operating plan(s) with basic program performance measures
2.	The strategic and/or operating plan(s) including measures and achievements are reviewed by Board of Directors at least annually
3.	The Executive Director’s performance is reviewed annually
4.	The organizational budget is approved by the Board of Directors annually
5.	An independent financial audit is performed annually and is available for public inspection and/or the organization’s financial statements are reviewed regularly by its Board of Directors

Generally, organizations that have these basic accountabilities in operation are displaying indicators that your investments of time, talent, and treasure will be put to good use. We recommend donors contact these nonprofits directly for further information on their stated operating processes.

Impact Foundation created the Institute for Innovation and Effectiveness to help nonprofit organizations achieve a greater positive impact in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
